of Thriving Wild OT

Saturday, June 8 & Sunday, June 9

A Wilderness Nearby

Barneveld, Wisconsin **

(overnight camping options available)

** We gather on occupied Ho-Chunk land.

Join us as we explore core routines of deep nature connection, restorative somatic practices, and creative processes that draw inspiration from and grow relationship with the land. We will take time to nurture our tender hearts, create beauty, and develop relationships with nature, ourselves and others.

This is a workshop:
* for all marginalized genders: women, women-identifying individuals, and non-binary and gender non-conforming folx who are comfortable in a group that centers the experiences of women.

  • for individuals curious about creative and art-making practices at any level of experience.

  • to explore your inner world in the outdoors.

  • to connect with nature as a balm for your inner world.

  • to inspire and/or develop a creative practice to fuel your creative endeavors.
that calls on your inward experience and the bounty, beauty and medicine of nature, combining them for self-care, discovery, and healing.

    This is not:

  • a Nature Journaling experience (although we will be drawing in and from nature).

  • a workshop aimed at making a finished piece of artwork or teaching a specific skilled craft.

  • therapy (although it will likely feel therapeutic).

Your Guides & Host

  • Kati Fernandez Lambert, Coyote Fire Illustration

Kati (she/her/hers) is a children’s illustrator and artist. She received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has publicly exhibited both her fine art and illustrations. She has a background in Nature Connection mentoring, outdoor and after-school enrichment programming for young people, as well as a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Kati offers classes and workshops at the intersection of creativity and nature, including making art supplies out of natural materials, creating art with nature treasures, and engaging in nature connection practices to spark creative energy. If she’s not painting or drinking coffee, she can be found tracking wildlife with her family at the pond behind their home.

  • Meg Barrow, MS, OTR/L, Thriving Wild OT

In addition to her work as an occupational therapist, Meg (she/her/hers) is an artist and maker who is particularly drawn to folk art and forms of handmaking traditionally done by women. She holds these forms in high regard not only because of the skills they require, but also because she recognizes that this work creates community, comfort, delight, care, and beauty in our everyday lives, making them instruments of survival, connection, and love. It’s no surprise that the materials and motifs frequently used in folk art come from the natural world, and it is in nature that she finds endless creative and relational inspiration.

  • Wendy Alettha (she/her/hers ), land tender of A Wilderness Nearby

My earliest memory is a dream that I had before I was three years old, of being saved from a house fire by a tree outside my window. Ever since then there has always been a special tree nearby no matter where I lived. As an adult I haven't always consciously recognized the importance of connection with Nature but I always enjoyed being outside; biking, sailing, kayaking, climbing trees and gardening. It was 19 years ago, when I was 56, that I rediscovered the reciprocity possible in a relationship with Nature and the land I now care for. I live with 20 acres of an oak and hickory woods. Early on in this relationship I began to receive supportive and directive messages from the woods. One of the first encouragements from the trees was to share the healing energy of these woods with others. I look forward to hosting you here and sharing these woods with you as part of this experience.
