October’s Hand Making Circle celebrates our ancestors! We will gather October 10, 2019 from 9 am - noon on the West side of Madison. Come feed the memory of your ancestors and create among Sisters!
We will gather together in our home and backyard shelter space open to Kettle Pond for a morning of crafting Hung Bao paper lanterns in honor of your ancestors.
Choose from a beautiful array of papers and adornments to create lanterns of beauty that reflect and celebrate your heritage and ancestry. Please bring photocopies of pictures of your ancestors, pets, beings you have been in connection with that have passed on. You can bring letters/handwritten recipes etc., other copies of memorabilia. We will glue these treasures into our lanterns. If you cannot have your copies prepared before arriving, there is a photocopier on site (minimal fee for use).
In closing we will sing and remember our ancestors - that they will continue to guide us from the other side toward a better world for all women! We part ways, carrying our lanterns into our dwellings to light the coming darkness of the season.
This friendly environment fosters a feeling of safety, community, remembering, and belonging.
Being prepared for Women’s Circle:
Women’s Hand Making Circle is for those who identify as women. We want to offer this time to women as a deep respite and rejuvenation time. However, if childcare is difficult, we welcome your children and offer support to you in circle so that you can take time to create as you tend to your child’s needs.
Arrive as early as you like. Our property backs up to Kettle Pond Park. The water and birds will enjoy your company for an early morning stroll or meditation as set up preparations are being made.
Tea, Water, and light snacks will be provided for you. Please note any food allergies on your registration form.
We will work on the floor for the October session. Some seating mats will be provided. Chairs and TV trays are available if back support is needed. Please indicate on the registration form any accommodations needed so we can support your comfort.
Artistic skill and/or ability is NOT necessary. We will work with and alongside our inner critics. All that is needed is an open heart and mind and the willingness to take a leap and be caught in the creative web of sisterhood.
You will take all completed work with you. If you have any incomplete pieces you will be able to take any supplies needed to finish them away from group.
October on the pond sometimes supports the buzz of the last of the mosquitoes. Natural mosquito spray is preferred. In respect and connection to the insects and winged beings of this land, we ask that you refrain from spraying any DEET products on the property or at the pond. If the outdoor space cannot keep us comfortable we will meet inside the home.
